Lunar Disko returns this February to the Sweeney Mongrel basement – with parties on the second Friday of every month for the rest of 2012. Expect the finest local DJ’s and live shows around, with one or two international guests thrown in for good measure! Expect to hear – disco, italo, electro, acid, Chicago, and Detroit jams alongside many more obscurities your little ears have yet to enjoy!

First up on Feb 10th, Automatic Tasty will be providing the LIVE sounds, while Andy Doyle & Barry Donovan will be looking after the turntable controls for the night…

By now, most folk will have heard of Automatic Tasty aka Jonny Dillon and his magic machines. With a number of killer digital LP’s and his debut 12″ on LDR behind him, we are all eagerly awaiting his follow up 12″ ‘Strange Terrain EP’ which marks the 10th release on LDR, and 10″ ‘Fieldwork EP’ which shall be landing at LDHQ in the not too distant future. News on upcoming releases and parties coming up very soon…

Mario began his professional career in 1996 when he met Marco Passarani from Nature records and together they decided to start a series of projects: releases, radio-shows and parties. Originally hailing from Rome, Italy, Mario now lives in Uppsala, Sweden…although he is very much still digitally and physically connected with the Roma sound he has forged with Marco Passarani and Francisco.

The musical projects, MAT101 and Jolly Music were originally formed by Mario alongside Francesco de Bellis (aka Francisco) and Emiliano Tortora who later decided to split from MAT101. But, it is Mario’s solo project Raiders of the Lost ARP that really caused a stir amongst fans of his music. When you talk about Raiders of the Lost Arp, it’s impossible not to notice his love for soul, funk and jazz: and that’s exactly the flavour you get in Mario’s electro-techno live sets. He has released two outstanding LP’s and numerous EP’s over the years, which have brought his fusion of sound to new heights…

Throughout a recording career spanning almost two decades, DJ Stingray aka. Sherard Ingram a.k.a. Urban Tribe has consistently avoided the mainstream to create a musical world of his own. Responsible for the early techno classic “Covert Action” on Retroactive (reissued on Planet E), Ingram was joined by Carl Craig, Anthony Shakir and Kenny Dixon jr. (Moodymann) for Urban Tribe s debut album “The collapse of modern culture” on Mo Wax.
Touring as Drexciya s official assault DJ, Stingray collaborated with James Stinson for the “Other People Place ft. Mystic Tribe a.i.” project on Clone in 2002. His two recent albums (“Authorized Clinical Trials” and “Acceptable Side Effects”) and singles for Rephlex have remained true to their drexciyan descent – not through imitation but through remorseless innovation in electro aesthetics.

‘Automatic Tasty’ is the recording name of Jonny Dillon, who comes from County Wicklow in Ireland. He makes trax on drum machines & synthesisers and invites you to join in the festivities.
He kindly asks that you leave all beards at the door, and draws your attention to the hook that has been provided outside, upon which all hang-ups can be slung. They will be safe for collection on leaving, though a disposal service is also provided free of charge.

Two of our favourite DJ’s and producers make their way to Dublin this October Bank Holiday weekend, for what promises to be another big night down in the basement of Kennedy’s….

Also, with it being the time of year when ghosts and ghouls terrify our streets, this party will of course be a Lunar Disko Halloween fancy dress! Spot prizes for best fancy dress…and most mouldy

Neville Watson:

Without doubt one of the best DJ’s we’ve had play at Lunar Disko over the years. Anybody that witnessed his set last year will testify to this! A seamless mixer of killer records. Detroit, Chicago, acid, UK techno gems…Neville Watson is most certaintly up there with the best when it comes to spinning the wax.

Apart from his DJ skills, Neville’s outstanding productions are what have pushed him to the forefront of the scene. His involvment in the early acid-house days in the 80′s are a massive influence in his productions as is his production partner KiNK. His excellent collaborations with KINK on Rush Hour sub label ‘Our House is Your Rush’ have proved to be massive releases, alongside numerous remixes under the alias ‘KINK & Neville Watson’. His solo work has also turned heads, with Clone releasing Neville in 2009, alongside jackin’ cuts on UK labels, Dissident, and World Unknown….

John Heckle:

Like many Merseysiders before him, John was discovered under the arches of Cavern Club in Liverpool. Blowing people away on three decks at ‘Alcatraz’ at the tender age of fifteen, John caught the eyes of heroes Regis and Surgeon, who took one listen to a demo of his music and gave it to RSB records. The track was released in 2006 on vinyl under the moniker ‘Hek’. The Murder Boys themselves played that very record on the Maida Vale sessions on BBC Radio One not long after.

Various gigs around the UK followed, as he added Roland Drum Machines to his fast paced Live/DJ shows. Production took a back seat during this time, as John concentrated on the quality of his performances. In 2009, following a 2-year release hiatus, he rekindled his passion for production after becoming inspired by the music of record label Mathematics Recordings (in particular the music of Jamal Moss, whom John had travelled to Belgium to see perform live). The purchase of a Roland synthesizer with his brother Bill shortly after marked the beginning of a new sound in John’s production; a sound which consequently bled into his still-frantic DJ sets.

In 2010, John was signed to Mathematics Recordings, releasing the exceptionally well-received ‘Life On Titan EP’, to cap the peak of his short career so far. A track on Tabernacle Records (run by the ‘Slabs of the Tabernacle’ organizers, who had booked John for two previous parties) soon followed, before a track on ‘Music from Mathematics Vol.7’ and ‘The 4th Dimension EP’. 2011 has seen the release of John’s long awaited debut album, ‘The Second Son’, aswell as a full EP on Tabernacle Records.

His unique and raw live shows have been attracting plaudits all over the UK recently, and we can’t wait to get Heckle and his machines down to Lunar…

Thanks to everyone who made it down on Friday night. Great atmosphere once again and brilliant sets from Meschi & The Textbook Lover. That was our last night down in the Sweeney Mongrel until Feb 2012 but not to worry we’ve got some other stuff lined up over the coming months to keep us happy.

Friday September 23rd sees Lunar Disko return @ The Sweeney Mongrel for another FREE party featuring Meschi [LIVE] and The Textbook Lover on the turntables.

Both Meschi and The Texbook Lover are part of the ever growing http://www.thisisourhouse.org which features reviews, mixes, interviews, and upcoming party info. Meschi and the crew also present ‘Our House Radio’, a weekly show on Intergalactic FM every Thursday from 7-8pm. The show features House, Techno, Electro, Jazz, Blues, Soundtrack, Space Music and Abstract material from across the Universe… well worth a listen!

Apart from the website, the two lads are pretty busy with music production and DJing. Meschi, of course, has released on Lunar Disko featuring on the ‘House Expressions EP’ , and then presented his debut EP ‘ Shifting Harbours’ at the beginning of this summer. He also features on a Cyber Dance compilation ‘Messages from the Void – Vol.2 ‘ The Texbook Lover holds residencies at a number of top nights in London, aswell as promoting some regular parties featuring the likes of Neville Watson and Legowelt.

Meschi’s live show has seen him gain plenty of plaudits over the last year with live performances all over the UK, and this Dublin date is the first leg of a little Irish tour which stops off in Waterford and Cork. Expect Meschi’s live set to jack the walls of the Sweeney Mongrel basement, and The Textbook Lover to treat us to some disco, italo, and Chicago killers early in the night…
